Titus Three: In Closing…

Paul closes this short letter to Titus by exhorting him to encourage his church to devote themselves to good works. Isn’t it amazing how lazy we get in this area? I don’t know about you, but I tend to fall back on the ‘ole “I’ll do good as the Holy Spirit leads” routine.
While its good to be obedient, I think that this functions sometimes as a copout. Paul tells Titus to be proactive, to look for areas to do good in. We should follow this example by adapting the mindset that we’re not going to wait for opportunities to pop up- instead we’re going to look for them, and then we’ll do it.

Paul gives us a sobering reminder about the expected conduct of a godly person when he told Titus this: “Show yourself in all respects to be a model of good works, and in your teaching show integrity, dignity, and sound speech that cannot be condemned, so that an opponent may be put to shame, having nothing evil to say about us.”

Speech that cannot be condemned…

I fail at this, and for that I apologize.

Titus One: Additionally…

Ok, so Paul doesn’t list this as a qualification for elder. But I think sometimes we assume it.

My day sucked, but I can’t advertise it on Facebook because I feel like my day isn’t allowed to suck.

But it did.

So there.
