The Final Month: Day Nineteen

Posted: July 19, 2012 in The Final Month

No changes on the support front, but God is still pouring out the blessings and answering prayers. Uriah is making good progress on the whole potty training thing, and Gracelyn is slowly but surely gaining an appreciation for food over formula. Things are looking great with the SBCV, and there’s a growing interest from individuals who may support me as a church planter. And even after providing the funds to take care of our hospital bill, God moved the powers that be at the hospital to reduce our bill by 60%! This will allow me to have (hopefully) enough extra in the bank to make the security deposits in Crozet that come with making a move. As always, I implore you to continue to pray for us as we’re down to ten days or so before hitting the road. Please pray that I would be extra disciplined in my own prayer life during this final push.

Interesting thing, prayer is. Especially to someone like myself who holds a very high view of God’s sovereignty. You know me, Mr. “God’s Working His Plan to Perfection.” It’s too easy for me to adopt a mindset that simply thinks things like “Well, if God wants me to have it, I’ll have it.” Yet we see God’s word saying otherwise. According to James, one of the reasons that we lack in something is because we never asked for it in the first place. Or as he said, “You do not have, because you do not ask.” Jesus told us, “If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!”

Could it really be that simple? Could it just be a matter of humbling ourselves and trusting that God is good and wants the best for us, and that if we pray in faith He will hear and answer our prayers, all to pour out kindness upon us and glorify Himself by doing so? That’s crazy. But it’s Biblical. It’s why I’m praying for a number of things this month, and why I’m asking you to continue with me. Let’s see how God reveals himself in the days to come!
