1 John Five: Simple Question

Posted: October 16, 2011 in 1 John

1 John 5:1

“Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the Father loves whoever has been born of him.”

According to this passage, is one born again before or after they believe in Jesus?

  1. Brian says:

According to the passage it looks like one is born again after they believe in Jesus.

  2. Hunter Garrett says:

    A spiritual Re-Birth

  3. Let’s ponder this statement:

“Whoever benchpresses 1,000 pounds has been working out.”

Now…does one bench 1,000 lbs first, or is that the result of the prior working out? Likewise in this passage, the one who believes that Jesus is the Christ is the one who has been born of God. I would argue, and I believe the text agrees, that one must be reborn (logically, though instantaneously with faith) before they can express faith in the person and work of Jesus.
